Opportunities in Agriculture and Allied Fields

 Programme Overview

Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood. The agriculture sector in India is expected to generate better momentum in the next few years due to increased investment in agricultural infrastructure. A variety of career options in this industry are available for young students to pursue as careers.  With the objective of encouraging and attracting young minds to this sector, a session on ‘Opportunities in Agriculture and Allied Fields’ was organized on Saturday 28th August for the high school students at MSB Educational Institute, Pune.

 

Objectives:

  • To introduce the students to the scope in the field of Agriculture and its allied fields.

  • Provide information about the multiple courses available in the country and abroad. 

  • Discuss the educational institutes offering the course and the basic requisites.

  • Create consciousness about food adulteration and the benefits of organic Farming 

Activity Description:

  • Mr.Rafique Vohra,  a renowned  Food Technologist, was invited to address the students on the topic of Agricultural Advancements in recent years and the numerous avenues available to young students to pursue as a career.

  •  The expert shared his expertise and experience to assist the students to comprehend the technicalities of this field of work and updated them with latest innovative trends coming up.

  • Information was given about the Green Revolution, White Revolution and associated personalities. The development in irrigation techniques, Nano Farming, the Nabard scheme provided by the Indian Government were discussed.

  • Students were also updated about the different universities and colleges offering the agricultural courses. Alongside, an insight was provided into the procedures and formalities of the entrance exams, the internship details and the variety of courses available for post graduation and PHD.

  • Students were informed about the opportunities available in the private sector, public sector and the global market.

  • Discussions on food adulteration and the simple methods to identify the same were interesting and alarming at the same time. The existence of Organic Farming gaining momentum and demand in the recent times was rationalised. 

  •  The field of Agricultural Engineering and its application was introduced and explained to the young students. Students were also briefed about the rapidly developing agricultural industry and the variety of channels available to pursue as promising careers.

Conclusion:

Students were amazed and impressed to receive first hand information about the Agricultural Avenues. They expressed their curiosity by interacting with the resource person enthusiastically. They were guided to research and refresh their knowledge about the developments in this area of work.
